We are currently seeking a self-motivated, confident and friendly individual, to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere as well as a high standard of professional, efficient and effective guest service at our Budget Hostel Accommodation in central Cheltenham, “the Gateway to the Cotswolds”, and a popular tourist destination in the South West of England.

Main purpose of the job:

To provide assistance to the Centre Manager and Budget Hostel Accommodation Team Leader in the professional and efficient running of the accommodation and conferencing facilities; ensuring that the expectations of each customer or guest are met or exceeded during their visit to YMCA Cheltenham

 Key responsibilities of this post are to:

  • Ensure that a high standard of guest and customer care is provided at all times.
  • Meet and greet customers, which could include checking them in, answering the phone in a professional and courteous manner, or showing customers to the conferencing facilities.
  • Assist in the marketing, promotion and development of the hostel to maximise the potential annual accommodation, conferencing and other income to assist with the financial viability of the hostel.
  • Assist with the centre administration necessary to run a successful accommodation and conferencing business. This will include ensuring that our online booking platforms remain in sync and up-to-date.
  • You will be actively involved in other key tasks at Number 6. This may involve making up bedrooms, cleaning bathrooms, setting up meeting rooms, moving furniture, changing lightbulbs – the list is endless and ensures that no two days will be the same!
  • Support the team as and when necessary, this may require work outside the areas of responsibility listed above.
  • Carry out any reasonable requests as directed by the Budget Hostel Accommodation Team Leader or Centre Manager


  • £8.75 per hour
  • 15 to 20 hours a week (This is on a rota basis which will include evenings and Saturdays)
  • Annual leave - 20 days per annum (pro rata) rising by an additional day per year after 2 years’ service to a maximum of 25 days (pro rata)
